Legislation enhancing the rights of the gay community has come a long way in recent years. The introduction of the Civil Partnership Act in 2005 radically altered the legal position of same-sex couples who can now register their partnership and enjoy similar rights to those previously enjoyed by married couples only. The Equality Act (Sexual Orientation) Regulations 2007 make it unlawful to discriminate on the grounds of sexual orientation in the provision of goods and services.
